Jhone Ebert
Talent
Superintendent, Clark County School District
Jhone Ebert has achieved impact at scale while leading educational organizations of increasing size, complexity, and challenge. Recognized nationally and internationally, she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (1996) and the Impact Award from the International Society for Technology in Education (2020). While she was a member of five national boards, she helped shape national policy on student assessment, educational research, computer science, and district governance. On her watch in New York as the Senior Deputy Commissioner for P-20 Education Policy, the State graduation rate increased 2.3 percentage points, with greater improvements among students who are Black/African American (5.5%), Hispanic (4.6%), and those with disabilities (6.1%). In the role, she oversaw P-12 education and 270 degree-granting post-secondary institutions in New York, and was responsible for the educational welfare of 3.1M total students. She later served as Nevada’s chief state school officer. While serving in that role, Jhone was an invited speaker at the White House on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and Equity. During COVID-19, Nevada became the first state in the nation to ensure all students had remote access via personal devices and hotspots. She oversaw the replacement of a 54-year-old school finance formula and the approval of a 25% increase in year-over-year state funding for education. While she was Superintendent of Clark County School District, the fifth largest district in the nation, the graduation rate improved more than 5 percentage points and outpaced the State, Washoe County School District, and schools operated by the State Charter School Authority. Mirroring a pattern on her watch in NYS, CCSD gains were greatest among students with disabilities (9.7), English learners (9.5), Black/African American (8.9), Hispanic/Latino (5.8), and economically disadvantaged Title I schools (6.8). Star rating scores for 138 schools (36% of district schools) improved. In 2025, Nevada Business Magazine named her one of the State’s “most respected leaders”. A 2026 study by Stanford and Harvard (Education Scorecard) declared CCSD one of only six districts in the nation that is “On the Rise in Mathematics.” Throughout her youth, public schools played a pivotal role in Jhone’s life. Raised in poverty, she feels fortunate that her teachers looked beyond her clothes to see the promise within her. Believing that school can be a passport to a better life, Jhone’s dream is that her story – rising above circumstances – becomes the inspiration for all students and especially those who face the steepest climb. She believes all students are entitled to the kind of education that she experienced, one that puts a home, a life, and a future in reach. She is committed to seeing that CCSD is worthy of the claim to be a “Destination District.”
